Dance Club

Overview

To expand the artistic opportunities available to our theater students, we propose adding a dance program for the Fall Semester, culminating in a performance at our Winter Recital. This program would be open to all students, regardless of prior dance experience, with groupings and performance opportunities adjusted to accommodate different skill levels.

Program Structure

Dance Styles Offered:

  • Group Dances:

    • Hip-Hop

    • Production

    • Jazz

    • Lyrical

  • Small Groups and Specialty Pieces:

    • 8th Grade Lyrical

    • Contemporary

    • Solo, Duet and Trio Opportunities

Participation Process:

  • Dance Clinic, Rehearsals: A two-day after-school clinic on Tuesday, September 2 and Thursday, September 4 (3:30-5:30pm) to allow students to learn short choreography combos and demonstrate dance skills. This clinic will help determine group placements and skill-appropriate performance opportunities.

  • Rehearsals: Regular weekly rehearsals (Thursdays from 3:30-5:30pm) will be held after school. This will not conflict with our Fall production and will offer an inclusive, low-stress way for students to grow artistically.

  • Optional Bonus Days: Students who are passionate about dance or interested in solos, duos/trios, or choreographing will have access to additional opportunities including:

    • Choreography workshops

    • Improv sessions

    • Ballet technique classes

Student Leadership:
Dance Captains will be assigned for each group number to foster leadership, responsibility, and collaboration. Students will also be invited to contribute to the choreography process, building confidence and creativity.

Instructor Qualifications

Ashleigh Chambers will serve as the lead dance teacher for this program. Ashleigh, a freshman at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), brings a strong background in competitive dance and school dance team performance. Her choreography experience includes:

  • DanceWorks Competition Team (3 years)

  • Central Magnet Dance Team (4 years)

  • Our Fall Broadway Revue

  • Central Magnet School

  • Smyrna Middle School

  • Dance Instructor at Arts Center of Cannon County Summer Camps

Ashleigh’s ability to connect with students and choreograph for various skill levels makes her an ideal fit for this role.

Cost & Logistics

  • Program Fee:  $75.00 for the full semester payable to Rockvale Middle School.

  • Recital Fee: May be additional depending on performance needs and costumes selected for the Winter Cabaret.

Conclusion

This dance initiative offers a valuable extension to our theater program, supporting artistic growth, community, and creativity among our students. It also provides a safe, supportive space to explore movement, expression, and collaboration—essential components of theatrical training. We hope to launch this pilot program this Fall and build momentum for future semesters.
